Inspection Reports: Which Food Providers Had Fewest Violations in April?

Stores and schools are featured in this month's roundup of inspections

It's not uncommon for multiple food providers in Mentor to receive spotless reports in a month, but April's round of inspections featured visits to schools throughout the city.

The results bordered on perfect, which Lake County General Health District Director of Environmental Health Nancy Niehus said is also not uncommon.

"By and large, they're wonderful, as they should be, because they feed a lot of kids," Niehus said. "We give them (school administrators and staff members) training and many have attended a two-day safety course.

"Schools are always proactive about wanting employees to be trained and up to date."

The district tries to visit schools once in the spring and once in the fall. That gives inspectors a chance to make recommendations that a district would have more time to correct in the summer and then follow up on those suggestions once school starts in the autumn.

It wasn't all about schools in April, though. A couple grocers also fared well during their reports. Check out some results below. Remember, this is not a full listing of restaurants, grocers or other food providers in the city. Those who must adhere to the Ohio Revised Code receive inspections at various times in the year. View an explanation of categories below the chart.

The food service providers each carry a category with a numerical ranking that is indicative of the risk the state believes there is for a patron to become ill. Restaurants are often listed as "C2S" or "C3S" and schools, "N2S" or "N4S," based on size and risk.
