Mahna Mahna

My son is just like the Mahna Mahna. He speaks his own language and goes off on tangents most times.

I know you read the title and said, “Huh?”

I know if you listen to the song, there is a good chance you know it.

My son is just like the Mahna Mahna.  He speaks his own language and goes off on tangents most times. He can be redirected and brought back out of his own little world with a little harmony though.

Why do I say this? Because Lo is autistic. I never realized just how many signs of autism he had until he was diagnosed with it.

Yesterday was Lo’s first day of preschool. I was worried. I was afraid of how he would behave. I was afraid he wouldn’t ride the bus home.

I know that he is not a bad kid. But many times he is off in his mahna mahna world and has major meltdowns when you try to bring him out of it. As I waited for the bus, I had the phone in my hand expecting the teacher to call me.

The phone never rang. Instead, I waited outside for my very grown up little 3 year old to get off the bus. He was a little pro at it. I asked the bus drivers how he did and they said he was really good. No crying and he really seemed to enjoy himself.  An overall good day.

I breathed a sigh of relief. I guess I was too worried how he was going to handle change.

He handled it great. Me on the other hand… well I guess only time will tell.

Today my mahna mahna is happy as can be back in his old babbling ways. And even if those nonsense babbles never turn into words, I always know that he will adapt. He showed me that yesterday.
