Mentor Woman Competing in Reader's Digest Writing Contest

Emily Koenig could win as much as $25,000 for her short story about how to pick the right dog

, a Mentor woman, may win $25,000 and publication in The Reader's Digest for her short story about how to pick the best dog.

Koenig has entered the Digest's "Your Life" contest in which writers share a lesson, simple advice, funny moment or other story from their life in 150 or fewer words.

Koenig chose to offer helpful advice. She recommended taking one's lifestyle into account before picking a canine companion.

"Are you a couch potato? No problem! Dogs in the terrier or poodle family are likely to enjoy sharing your lap on family movie night," she wrote. "Do you plan to take Fido on your daily run? Great! Dogs from the shepherd and collie families make excellent jogging companions."

Koenig's story has trended as one of the most popular entries on the contest's Facebook page.

The contest's grand prize winner will get the aforementioned $25,000 and be published in the Digest. That story will be picked by the magazine's editors.

Additionally, 11 runners-up – one of whom will be picked by popular vote – will also get $2,500 and may be published in the magazine.

People can vote for Koenig by visiting this Facebook page and clicking the "vote now" button. 

Furthermore, the contest is still accepting submissions until Nov. 1 if you feel you have a story of your own to write.

The winners will be selected on or around Dec. 1.
