Mentor Artist to Debut New Collection 'Art in Music'

Steven McGowan uses the music he loves as inspiration for his newest collection

Mentor artist Steven McGowan will premiere his new collection, Art in Music - An Illustrated Collection of Musicians, tonight at the Flying Monkey Pub in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland.

McGowan will display 15 paintings, each featuring a different artist.

He said his is an avid music fan with eclectic taste. Similarly, the subjects of his paintings cover a diverse range of genres. They include Kurt Cobain, Charles Mingus, Johnny Cash and Bob Marley.

“Music has always inspired me and this collection is a tribute to some of the musicians that havemade a significant impact in music,” he said.

McGowan's collection will be on display through June 30.

McGowan loved art from an early age but did not discover his talent until he was a student at Following high school, he honed his skills at Kent StateUniversity.

McGowan works primarily with oil pastels and acrylics and specializes in celebrity and custom portraits. His artwork can be viewed at www.stevenmcgowanart.com.
