Drummers Gathering At Lake Catholic Sunday To Break World Record

Big Beat 2011 raises money for Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which donates music instruments to music instruments

As many drummers as want to sign up will be participating in the Big Beat 2011 Sunday at . The drummers will be taking pledges to raise money for Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which donates musical instruments to young musicians.

The drummers in Mentor will also try to break a world record by linking up with drummers from 14 other cities around the country. By using the Internet, all of the drummers will play the same beat simultaneously.

To participate, one needs a bass drum, snare, hi-hat, tom and a carpet or rug square.

Big Beat 2011 will also feature drum clinics from local musicians and prizes.

The top donation collector around the country gets a drumhead signed by Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones.

The event is organized locally by John Stebal, a Lake Catholic alum and owner of Stebal Drums in Willowick. Nationally, it is organized by the Five-Star Drum Shops Group, a collection of 37 independently owned specialty percussion stores that includes Stebal's.
