Colorful Quilts Coming to Farmpark

Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake residents are among the winners in the Lake Metroparks annual quilting show and competition

A colorful collage of quilters from all across the state are coming to Quilts 2012, an annual show and judged competition at Lake Metroparks Farmpark.

The show features more than 200 quilted works from internationally acclaimed visiting artists and a judged show of works by regional artists.

And some Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake quilters are among the regional award winners:

  • Janet Mazzone of Mentor-on-the-Lake won second place in the mixed, hand-quilted category for her piece "White, Black and All Points Between."
  • Amy Liikala and Sharyn Horvath -- both of Mentor -- won honorable mentions in the "general pieced, small size" and "individual pieced, large size" categories, respectively.

Visitors to the Farmpark can check out the work Mazzone, Liikala, Horvath and many more regional quilters from Feb. 10 to March 21.

The event's featured artists include Joen Wolfrom, who has taught quilting on five different continents, and Cynthia England, who twice won best in show at the International Quilt Festival in Houston.

Tickets to Quilts 2012 cost $6 for adults, $5 for seniors who are 60 and older, $4 for kids ages 2 to 11, and Farmpark members and children under 2 are free. The ticket also covers the cost of all other Farmpark attractions.
