String Trios, Dr. Seuss & The Marine Corps Band: A Weekend Planner

Why Go: From Quantico, VA, the Marine Corps Band will present a very special evening of musical entertainment at Mentor High School today.

The program will be selected from the Band’s extensive repertoire, to include familiar marches, traditional classics, patriotic favorites, jazz, and popular contemporary music.

Where/When: Mentor Public Library - Main Branch, 7 p.m. Monday

Why Go: This month's Monday University at the Library features Cleveland Music Institute student performers as they perform string trio music for violin, viola and cello. Learn the difference between these three instruments and the background of the pieces performed by Beethoven, Mozart and Dohnanyi.

Why Go: Dr. Seuss's first book is turning 75 and, to celebrate, this event will feature a special story time with a selection of two Dr. Seuss titles, a "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That" screening area, a chance to get your photo taken with The Cat in the Hat, the opportunity to decorate your own crown or tiara, a parade, Dr. Seuss activity books. prizes and goody bags. It's all happening in the main concourse near .

Where/When: , 6 p.m. Sunday

Why Go: The fifth grade class at is holding a spaghetti dinner/silent auction fundraiser. Tickets are $10 each and all proceeds go towards children attending sixth grade camp. The kids look so forward to attending this camp and it has been a great success over the past several years.

Where/When: James A. Garfield National Historic Site, 11 a.m. Saturday

Why Go: The Garfield and the Civil War Tour discusses the Civil War career of James A. Garfield and that of his brother-in-law, Joe Rudolph. After learning about Garfield's experience at the Battle of Chickamauga and Sandy Valley, the tour moves to the third floor suite in the Garfield Home, where General Rudolph lived with his family during the late 19th and early 20th century.

The tour is about 90 minutes and begins at the Visitor Center. Reservations are required. Participants must be 16 years or older.
