Mentor To Have Community Garden At Wildwood Cultural Center

People can reserve one of the few remaining plots by calling the city

The city of Mentor has received a grant for its community garden at .

The $14,750 grant comes from via the Lake Country General Health District.

The city will use the money to install a water line, hoses, a sign and fencing to keep out deer, according to a story in The News-Herald.

A community garden is a single piece of land that's gardened collectively by a group -- in this case, the residents of Mentor.

The Mentor garden will have 32 plots, each of which are 20 by 25 feet. Those who are interested in taking responsibility for one of the plots next year can call Paul Hegreness of the city's Parks and Recreation Department at 440-974-5123.

The annual fee for a plot is $35. Also, a $20 cleanup deposit is also required, but the city refunds it if the gardener properly puts their plot to bed by Nov. 5.

The garden will be split into organic and inorganic portions.

Also, some of the food grown in the garden will be donated to the .
