Mentor's New Recycling Program Delayed Until February

Mentor residents can still use city drop off sites through January

The city of Mentor's new, will launch a month later than initially expected.

Due to logistical issues, Waste Management will not be able start citywide curbside recycling until February, as opposed to January, according to the City Manager Kenneth Filipiak's office.

The additional month will provide enough time for Waste Management to produce, deliver and distribute more than 14,000 recycling carts to city residents, Filipiak said in a memo to City Council.

This also gives the city extra time to explain the changes in the recycling program to residents, Filipiak added.

Waste Management, at their expense, will continue to collect recyclables from the 4,000 or so residents who participate in curbside recycling, as well as keep Mentor's drop-off site open through January.

Because most residents will not get recycling in January, the $2.66
savings will be absorbed over twelve periods, lowering the monthly rate from
$7.64 to $7.42 in the first year of the contract, Filipiak said.

The will save residents at least 19 percent and the city about $500,000 per year, while providing curbside recycling to residents.
