Mentor Recreation Department Announces Winner of Amateur Photo Contest

The City of Mentor's Recreation Department has announced the winners of its first amateur photo contest.
Maggie Carkhuff, of Kirtland Hills, beat 31 other entries and won first place with a photo of her son playing with the geese at .
Carkhuff's photo is in black and white, which gives it a timeless feeling.

Carkhuff told Marcey Bryant, the recreation coordinator who organized the contest, that she chose to make her photo black and white because her son was cold that day and wearing her daughter's pink coat.
Theresa Laing and Phyllis Zahn, both of Mentor, won second and third place, respectively. The winners were selected by Mentor City Council.

The winning photos will be used in the City of Mentor publications, its website and Mentor Channel 12.
The winners received a City of Mentor reusable shopping bag and license plate frame as a prize. Carkhuff also received a blanket from the city.
