Mentor Hosts World's Largest Swimming Lesson Event

Civic Center Park was the site of an event Tuesday that could end up contributing to a world record.

The 320 people who showed up were part of a simultaneous event across the globe aimed at setting the record for the world's largest swimming lesson. The current record, set in 2011, stands at 19,322.

It could be weeks before Mentor officials know if it the record was broken, but lesson director Emily Decker was sure Mentor played its part. More than twice the amount of people splashed around the pool for nearly an hour.

The majority were children from all of the city's day camps, as well as some from Rainbow Connections and the general public. They learned front flips, front floats, kicks and more.

"It went really well," Decker said. "Everybody looked like they had a great time."
