Meet this Week's Whiz Kid: Gabrielle (Ellie) O’Brien

Patch Whiz Kid of the Week

• Whiz Kid's Name, Age: Gabrielle (Ellie) O'Brien, 6, of Mentor
• Whiz Kid's School: All Saints of St. John Vianney in Wickliffe
• Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Among several other dancers, Ellie won first place in the feis (pronounced fesh) Irish dance competition Feb. 5 at the I-X Center in Cleveland.
• Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Ellie and her brother Joey () have taken Irish dance lessons year round for the last 2 years at Leneghan Academy.

Earlier in the year, the instructor Catherine Leneghan told Ellie that she and her brother were ready for competition.

Ellie already seemed like an old pro at her first competition. She won first in the light jig category, beating older children. Afterwards, a judge told her she “owned it.”

She will head to Columbus in April for the next competition.
