Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood Celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Check out some highlights from a full slate of events this month

The Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood kicks off Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month today with a full slate of activities in Mentor and other communities in the county.

The month's theme is "Look Beyond."

"This is a time when our organization focuses on encouraging the public to better understand the individuals we serve," Elfie Roman, Elfie Roman, the LCBDD superintendent, said in a news release.

Here are some of the events scheduled for this month:

  • March 6 — Upside of Down’s Karaoke night at Toth’s Place in Mentor
  • March 11 — LCBDD will recognize Jason Lea from Mentor Patch for helping to raise developmental disability awareness through media at the Ohio Public Images and Ohio County Board Association Awards Luncheon in Columbus. 
  • March 14 — The annual Art Show Exhibit goes up at the LCBDD/Deepwood Administration Building and will be on display through May 30.
  • March 14 — Sixth annual VGC Idol at the Vocational Guidance Center
  • March 25 — Fifth annual Broadmoor Bobcats vs. Area Coaches game at Mentor High School at 7 pm.
  • March 28 — "Look Beyond" presentation at the Mentor Rotary meeting at LaMalfa
  • March 30 — Second annual Deepwood Idol contest at Great Lakes Mall
