Why Go: This event combines two of my favorite things: breakfast and philanthropy.

For a voluntary donation you can chow down on pancakes and sausage. More importantly, the donations all go to the Mentor Schools Foundation.

This year part of the proceeds go to the facility, for students with autism.

Why Go: Want to get an early start on Black Friday shopping? How early?

The Mentor mall opens at midnight. Patrons can also enjoy live music, games and giveaways in addition to the deals.

Where/When: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Thursday

Why Go: What's more awesome than the zoo? The zoo (and rainforest) for free.

Animal enrichment demonstrations also will be planned for the festivities. A full schedule of Thanksgiving at the Zoo activities will be posted online at clemetzoo.com.

Have a great time with the whole family for free (and don't feed the animals.)

Why Go: The alumni of Riverside Schools and Notre Dame Cathedral-Latin will face off on the ice for bragging rights.

Why Go: The Mentor Beautification Committee presents the annual holiday lighting ceremony with music, refreshments and a visit from Santa Clause.
