FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Why Go: Boogie down to Mentor Skateland and roll to the music of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Games, raffles and prizes, too.   

Pricing: Skater admission is $5, skate rental is available for $2.

Why Go: The grand opening of the new place for middle school and high school students to hang out will feature the Cavs Scream Team, face painting, a balloon artist, music, refreshments, giveaways and the Skipper, the Lake County Captains mascot.

INTERNATIONAL CUISINE CELEBRATION

Where/When: Downtown Painesville on Main Street, Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Great food from local restaurants and church specialty foods, music, a kids zone play area and all-around family fun.

HORSEFEST 2011

Where/When: Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Why Go: Horses, horses and more horses. Plus a Wild West show, equine demonstrations, competitions, hands-on activities and more.

Pricing: Farmpark admission applies.

LAKE EFFECT COMIC BOOK CONVENTION

Where/When: Comics and Friends, Great Lakes Mall, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Why Go: Comic book heaven: workshops, tournaments, movies, panels, costume contest and a silent auction.
