Happy Father’s Day!

The U.S. Census Bureau has compiled a few facts about Father’s Day, so we picked 10 for your perusing. Have a look and wow your family with these interesting tidbits at tonight’s dinner.

  1. 1910: The year of the first known Father’s Day celebration.
  2. 1972: The year the holiday was signed into law by President Richard Nixon.
  3. 70.1 million: Estimated number of fathers in the U.S.
  4. 25.3 million: Fathers in married-couple families with children under 18.
  5. 1.8 million: Single fathers – in all, they make up 15 percent of all single parents.
  6. 154,000: Stay-at-home dads (the few but proud!). They took care of 287,000 kids.
  7. 36 percent: of children younger than six had 15 or more outings with Dad in a given month.
  8. 6 times: On average, how often Dad read to children aged 3 to 5 in a given week (go, Dad!).
