In an effort to honor young children and all those who make a difference in their lives, Lakeland asks the community to come together for children during the Week of the Young Child this April.

As part of National Week of the Young Child being celebrated across the country, Lakeland is hosting a free event, “The Early Years are Learning Years,” on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the college campus, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, 44094, in the auxiliary gym.

For more information, call Cathy Zeller at 440-357-1241.

Many local child care programs and agencies that provide children’s resources will be on hand for free children’s activities as well as information for families. The celebration is co-sponsored by Starting Point, the YMCA, and Tri-County AEYC.

“All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life, and Lakeland has a great opportunity to do our part to help young children,” said Jane Booth, director of The Teaching Learning Center.

Week of the Young Child is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.

Young children and their families depend on high-quality education and care, which help children get a great start, and bring lasting benefits to Lake County.

Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy, and to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children.

Early childhood professionals at Lakeland work together to improve professional practice and working conditions in early childhood education, and to build public support for high-quality early childhood education programs.

The Teaching Learning Center at Lakeland is an affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of early education programs for children birth through age eight. Founded in 1926, NAEYC has nearly 90,000 members and a national network of over 300 local, state, and regional affiliates.
