The Mentor Lagoons Marina encompasses 450 acres, including 1.5 miles of shoreline along Lake Erie. In 1996, the voters of Mentor approved the use of eminent domain for the city to take the land so it would not be spoiled. Mentor Lagoons houses rare flora and fauna and is an important breeding ground for waterfowl and fish. The marina, naturally, can also house boats and has put-ins for motorboats, kayaks and canoes. Classes introducing people to boating and kayaking are held seasonally at the lagoons. Also, electric carts and bicycles can be rented.
