Peter, compromise is great in many areas of life. On the issue of Federal spending, compromise is precisely why were trillions of dollars in debt. Even if you subtract the unilateral wasting of money by Obama and the democrats, we had 8 years of Republican controlled over spending under Bush. go-along get-along legislation filled with pork spending and unchecked waste ballooned our debt. Lawnfield, Library Continue Civil War Series With Battle Of Shiloh

The park and library will discuss one of the bloodiest battles in U.S. history

AP: Romney Wins Ohio, Holds Off Santorum In Key Swing State

Mitt Romney won in the cities and suburbs, perhaps just enough to hold off Rick Santorum voters in the state's rural areas.

Mitt Romney narrowly defeated Rick Santorum Tuesday in the Ohio Republican primary to claim most of the delegates and the giant symbolic prize that is the Buckeye State. While some votes remain outstanding, the Associated Press, CNN and other media organizations have called the race for Romney. Romney performed well in the state's population centers, including Northeast Ohio, but could not defeat Santorum in the state's rural areas, according to results with 96 percent of the precincts reporting. Romney claimed the counties that included Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and other big cities. Newt Gingrich played the spoiler role, collecting about 15 percent of the vote. Here are the unofficial results from the Ohio Secretary of State: …

Mentor Public Library Levy Passes in Close Vote

The additional levy passed by less than one percent

"That was a tight one," Mentor Public Library Executive Director Lynn Hawkins said after voters passed the library branch's 2-mill additional levy. "But we're grateful, nonetheless." Unofficial results show the levy passed by a slim margin of 71 votes -- 6,064 to 5,993 -- or 0.59 percent. "I would like to thank everyone who supported the library with their vote," Hawkins said. "We've made great strides to offer improved services since the 2008 levy and we're glad we won't have to take strides backward." The library previously said it will revoke its current 1.1-mill levy that was approved in 2008 if the new one is approved. That means the new levy is basically a replacement for the current levy, though it’s not a replacement levy. The new …

Indeed. Why anyone voted NO to a library fund is beyond me. And if you tell me it's because you don't use the library then something tells me you need a lesson about keeping a city strong. Thanks to those that voted YES!   more ›

Both candidates ran unopposed in the primaries. The current representative for the 61st district, Democrat Mark Okey, is not running for re-election. The city of Mentor is bifurcated between two house districts -- the 60th and the 61st. The 61st includes the first, second and third …
