Mentor graduate Mitch Trubisky was named High School Athlete of the Year at the 2012 Greater Cleveland Sports Awards on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

Mitch Trubisky has already graduated from Mentor High School and he's still winning awards.

Trubisky was named the High School Athlete of the Year at the 2012 Greater Cleveland Sports Awards in Cleveland Thursday night.

One of the best quarterbacks Mentor has seen in a while, Trubisky beat out Kirtland High School's Damon Washington and a fellow Mentor Cardinal, Justin Fritts.

Because Trubisky has already started classes at the University of North Carolina, he wasn't able to attend Thursday's ceremony. He did film a short video clip for an acceptance speech.

He is Greater Cleveland's all-time career passing leader with 9,126 yards and 92 touchdowns. He also finished with 1,560 career rushing yards and 33 rushing touchdowns.

Mentor was 30-8 during Trubisky's three years as the starter.

Fritts was Ohio's Mr. Basketball for the 2011-12 season and is Mentor's second all-time leading scorer with 1,691 career points.

He currently attends Wheeling Jesuit University where he plays basketball and baseball.

Sports Moment of the Year Award

The Cardinals were also the recipients of the 2012 Best Moment in Cleveland Sports Award.

The crowd was entertained by a highlight video from the Division I Regional Championship Game where Mentor took St. Ignatius into triple overtime and came out on top, 57-56.

Coaches from both teams, Mentor's Steve Trivisonno and St. Ignatius' Chuck Kyle, were on stage to receive the award.
