Staples Found in Halloween Candy

The Mentor Police Department asks residents to look through the candy their children collected during trick or treating

As a result of a tampered candy report last night, the Mentor Police Department is encouraging residents to monitor the treats their children received during trick or treating.

According to the City of Mentor's website, a woman called police Sunday night to report staples in a box of Nerds that her child collected while trick or treating in the Headlands area.

The woman noticed that the box of Wonka Grape Nerds candy had the top bent back but was still glued shut. She opened the box and discovered that it was half comprised of staples instead of candy.

The child had been asking for candy on Homewood, Jordan and Willowbrook drives and Spinnaker Court.

Residents are asked to call police at 440-974-5760 if they find something suspicious.

This really angers me! That some sick & twisted person or persons premeditated this. The point that this person or persons went through extreme measures to make it look as if the candy hasn't been tamper with. For someone to take the time to seriously try causing harm to a child, if not death, needs to be found & place in front of our justice system. The MPD IS ASKING FOR US, AS A COMMUNITY TO HELP FIND THIS PERSON/PERSONS WHOS Responsible for this Disgusting cowardly act. JUST Imagine That this happened to your child? How would you feel. Contact MPD WITH ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THIS INCIDENT/INCIDENTS.
