Snow Cancels Some – But Not All – School Events Today
OMEA concerts are canceled this weekend at Mentor Schools Fine Arts Center, but Lake Catholic's girls' basketball game is still on
The snow has canceled some school events, but a few will go on as planned.
The Lake Catholic girls' basketball team's regional championship game against Hathaway Brown in Barberton is still on for 7:30 p.m. today, according to a tweet from News-Herald sports writer Theresa Audia Neuhoff.
Lake Catholic's Alumni Winter Sports Fest is also still happening at 6 p.m. today in the gym atrium.
Mentor Schools' musicians, however, have had their weekend plans scrapped. The Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Contest for District 7, which was scheduled for today and Saturday at the Fine Arts Center, is canceled and will not be rescheduled.
The good news is most musicians will automatically advance to OMEA state competition May 6 and 7 at Highland High School in Medina.
All high school choirs and bands in OMEA District 7, including those from Mentor, who were registered in Classes AA, A, B and C may advance to the state level adjudicated event if they choose to, according to Mentor High School music teacher Terry Herschman.
The one exception is Festival-class music groups, which are not eligible for the state competition.
All sports practices are also canceled at Mentor High School today except for possibly the boys' basketball team. The basketball team is waiting to see if the weather improves so they can practice before their showdown with Brush High School Saturday.
