More than 400 students from Orchard Hollow and Sterling Morton participated in International Walk to School Day Thursday and Friday, respectively.

They were joined by their teachers, parents, school administrators, police and firemen during their commute.

Walk to School Day began in the United Kingdom and crossed the pond in 1997. Mentor's Recreation Department has organized walks for the last three years.

The event encourages healthy habits and safe, walkable neighborhoods.
