Mentor's Unemployment Rate Stays at 6.4 Percent in August
While the city's unemployment rate is the same as it was in July, it is a full percentage point lower than August 2010
The city of Mentor's unemployment rate stayed at 6.4 percent in August, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
While that is the same rate as July, it is down from 7.4 percent in August 2010.
Mentor still has the lowest unemployment rate of any Ohio city with a population of more than 50,000, according to Ron Traub,the city's director of economic development.
In fact, of the 20 Ohio cities with more than 50,000 people, seven of them have an unemployment rate of more than 10 percent.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in Lake County dipped from 7.3 percent in July to 7.1 percent in August.
The national unemployment rate is 9.1 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Mentor's unemployment rate peaked in January and February of 2010 at 8.7 percent.
