Mentor Schools BOE Congratulate Athletic, Academic Standouts At Meeting
From spelling to gymnastics champs -- Mentor Schools had a lot to celebrate at its most recent Board of Education meeting
The Mentor Schools Board of Education met Tuesday evening Mentor High School and they used the meeting as an opportunity to celebrate the athletic and academic accomplishments of several of their students, including:
- the Memorial Middle School Cardinal Challenge team
- the district's spelling competition winners
- Kevin Nguyen and Emily Penkowski, the high school's national merit finalists
- Penkowski and Tyler Elston, the Mentor High School American Legion Post 352 Americanism and Government Test winners
- the high school's Benny Award winners and the Lake and Geauga Counties Secondary Art Award winners
- the Mentor High School Interactive Media Student teams
- Maria Coy, the Mentor High swimmer who qualified for the state championship
- the Mentor High boys bowling team, who qualified for the state tournament for the first time in the school's history
- the members of the Mentor High wrestling team who qualifed for state
- Kayla Kosmerl, the Mentor High gymnast who won best in state, and her teammates who were state runner-ups
Also at the meeting, the Board approved a $223,000 window replacement project for Sterling Morton Elementary and a $232,000 roof replacement for Memorial Middle School.
