Mentor Police Arrest Pair Of Burglary Suspects (Updated)

The duo were spotted at a Mentor motel

Mentor Police arrested a pair of burglary suspects Tuesday evening -- one of who also faces a trio of drug-related charges.

A Mentor officer checked a license plate and noticed the car belonged to Holly Kovacic.

Kovacic, 20, and Kevin Brewer, 21, are suspects in a series of burglaries in Cleveland and have warrants out for their arrest, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen.

The officer followed Kovacic and Brewer to the Super 8 motel in Mentor where they had been staying.

When the policeman entered the hotel room, he could see a bag of marijuana, a smoking pipe, a burnt plastic straw and a $20 bill that had white powder on it, Allen said. The powder is thought to be heroin.

Brewer said the drugs and paraphernalia were his, Allen said, so he was charged with possession of heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Kovacic was turned over to Cleveland Police. Cleveland detectives also interviewed Brewer. However, Brewer is still in Mentor and was arraigned on his drug charges Wednesday in Mentor Municipal Court.

Judge John Trebets set Brewer's bond at $15,000, which was not posted. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 10.

In addition to the burglary warrant, Brewer also has warrants out for his arrest on an aggravated menacing case in Westlake and for failing to appear in court on a traffic charge in Rocky River.

Both Kovacic and Brewer were homeless at the time of their arrest, Allen said.

These people sound like real winners... They're 'wanted' in many cities for various offenses. And what's up with the mentor hotels? It seems like just about once a week someone is busted while staying at one of these cheap motels! Cops should do regular checks in the parking lot on license plates and with the registry! I don't think these people are bright enough to sign with a ficticious name - especially if they HAVE to show official i.d. (like a drivers lisc.)...

Matthew, do not insult other commenters. You could have easily made your point without insulting anyone.

Really? We're blaming this on ethnicity? It seems like there are enough people of all ethnic groups who get into trouble. (And, conversely, there are plenty of people from all ethnic groups who don't get into trouble.)
