Mentor Parents Accused Of Endangering Children

Police say parents had their three children living in decrepit conditions

Mentor Police said two parents were raising their kids in unsafe conditions and charged them with endangering children.

Police were called to their home in the 6400 block of Center Street Thursday evening after one of the three teenagers who live in the house accidentally hurt herself.

There was excrement, rotting food, garbage and insects in the home, Mentor Police Sgt. Tim Nekic said.

"It was not somewhere you want your children to be living," Nekic said.

Police charged the parents and they are scheduled to appear this week in .

In the meantime, the teenagers are living with family members, Nekic said.

Endangering children is a first-degree misdemeanor. Someone convicted of that could be sentenced to as much as six months in the local jail.

The suspects in this case have not been identified to protect the identity of the children.
