Mentor High Gymnast Kayla Kosmerl Top In State
Mentor team earns runner-up title at state competition
Mentor senior Kayla Kosmerl, as well as the entire Mentor High gymnastics team, raised the bar during the state championship this week.
Kosmerl won the all-around competition on Saturday, becoming the first Mentor High gymnast to ever do that.
And, as a team, the Cardinals were state runner-up. They only trailed the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees, the same powerhouse that beat them at districts.
The highest the Mentor gymnastics team had ever scored at states before this weekend was fourth, which happened last year.
Kosmerl was first on bars. She also placed in the beam, vault and floor exercise events.
Her teammate, Alex Aiello, was runner-up in the vault during the individual competition.
She fell just .325 points of sixth place in the all-around, according to The News-Herald.
Mentor's Allie Arthur also competed in the all-around competition.
Additionally, teammates Brittany Adkins, Sarah Butterfield and Lauren Cannon helped contribute in the team competition.
