Mentor Headlands, Fairport Harbor Beaches Safe For Swimming
Lake County General Health District says Lake County's biggest beaches are safe for swimming
The district found blue-green algae, which produce toxins, in Lake Erie on Monday.
But subsequent tests have shown that Mentor Headlands and Fairport Harbor beaches are safe for swimming and fishing.
However, Lakefront Lodge Beach in Willowick, which is not a public beach, anyhow is still having problems with an algal bloom and is not safe for the public.
There will be informational signs at the beach asking the public to be aware of the blooms. The public is strongly encouraged obey the signs.
The LCGHD will continue to monitor this situation and address the public as warranted. The Lake County General Health District will continue to sample Fairport beach and other lake access points in Lake County and post the results on our web site.
Meanwhile, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will conduct any necessary follow up samples from Mentor Headlands State Park Beach.
