An older couple who lives in Mentor was contacted by telephone and told that their granddaughter had been arrested in Canada and needed money for a lawyer and bond, according to the Mentor Police Department Facebook page.
The caller let them speak to a female that they said sounded like their granddaughter and also had their personal information.
The victims were told to wire money to her via Western Union but the fake granddaughter also said for them to not tell Western Union what the money was for.
Western Union is aware of this particular scam, according to police.
Mentor Police asks that you inform other peopl of this scam and, if you have any questions, to call 440-255-1234.

Man it sucks getting old. I really hope I kick it before the time comes when I might fall victim to scams like this.
You know, Western Union reminds me a lot of the Motel 6 in Mentor these days. Both seemed to be useful businesses at some point in time, but it seems like they're only around now to support crime.
