Already sick of the candy mountain your kids amassed this Halloween?

Well, you can do some good -- for your kids' teeth, the United Way of Lake County and troops overseas -- by selling the candy back to a pair of Mentor dentists.

Through Nov. 5, Chandice Richards of Albrecht Family Dentristry and Jacqueline Cerar of Macy Family Dentristry will pay kids $1 for each pound of candy they give them.

The dentists will, in turn, donate another dollar to the United Way of Lake County for each pound of candy they collect.

The treats will be sent to troops overseas.

The offer is good for up to five pounds of candy. If your kids collected more than five pounds of trick or treating, they'll have to share their overage elsewhere.

"I hope many families participate," Richards said. "It is a fun way to support the United Way."

The local chapter of the United Way kicked off its annual fundraising drive in August. Thus far, it has collected $2.15 million of its $3.7 million goal. The campaign continues through March 2012.

Money raised during the campaign benefits 74 partner programs that the nonprofit organization funds. These programs focus on senior citizens, health and human services, children, families and basic needs.
