Mentor Concert Series Continues With The Pop Tarts

Enjoy hits from the best girl groups of the 1960s with The Pop Tarts

There may be a Heatwave coming tonight to to Mentor but it will still be One Fine Day when The Pop Tarts sing all the hits from the great girl groups of the 1960s.

This tribute band will perform a pair of free shows starting at 7 p.m. at Civic Center Park's amphitheater and there will be dancing in the street.

These women have mastered almost 100 songs from music's most harmonious era, so check them out if you want a good time.

Fair warning: You may spend the rest of the week humming "And Then He Kissed Me."

And the music doesn't end after tonight.

The free outdoor concerts will go from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday through July 31. (To get a sampling, check out our video of the Doo Wop Kingz' performance.)

The remaining performers are:

  • July 10 – Driven – Dance to music, ranging from country to rock to disco and more.
  • July 17 – Replay – You’ll love listening to the hits from the 70s as played by this superb horn group.
  • July 24 – Shockwave – A six-piece funk/soul band with a repertoire that includes tunes from Motown mainstays, funk grandmasters and even Joe Cocker and Jimmy Buffett
  • July 31 – Chance – This incredible 10-piece show dance band plays everything from Sinatra to Motown and more.

The concerts are sponsored by several area businesses.

Visitors should bring blankets or lawn chairs and a picnic dinner to the concerts.

The performances will be moved indoors to the Civic Ice Arena if it’s raining. For additional information on the Summer Concert Series, call 440-974-5735 or visit www.cityofmentor.com/play.
