Mentor Cardinals Win Way Into Finals At Arby's Classic

The Mentor boys basketball team beat the Charlotte Christian Knights 92-61

No matter what happens during Saturday's final, the Mentor Cardinals will have improved on their showing from last year's Arby Classic when they won third place.

The boys basketball team earned their way into the finals by beating Charlotte Christian 92-61.

As he has all tournament, Justin Fritts led the Cardinals with 26 points.

Danny Wallack, Jeff Foreman and Mitch Trubisky also scored in double digits for the team. (See the complete box score here.)

For the first quarter, Charlotte Christian played Mentor much closer than either Hurley High School or Greater Atlanta Christian managed. Mentor only lead 24-20 after the first quarter. However, they managed to widen the gap another ten points before halftime. Then, in the third quarter, the Cardinals exploded for 23 points while the Knights only scored eight.

Charlotte Christian had a slightly better shooting percentage -- 46 percent to 44 percent. However, the Cardinals snagged three times as many offensive rebounds -- 18 to 6. This allowed Mentor to take 17 more shots during the length of the game.

Mentor has grabbed 58 offensive rebounds during the first three games of the tournament.

Mentor's finals opponent Saturday is the Christ School out of North Carolina, who has won the past five state titles in the state's private school league.

Once again, a special thank you must go out to CardzFan1234 on the Yappi forums. He not only provides scores and updates throughout the game. He also gives valuable commentary.
