Mentor Boys Basketball Kick Off Arby's Classic With Record-Setting Win
Mentor obliterated Hurley High School 102-29
The Mentor High boy basketball team didn't just win its first game in the Arby's Classic, it obliterated Hurley High School 102-29, according to Mentor Schools web site.
Last year, the Cardinals set a record for the most three pointers made during the tournament with 42. However, they are already on pace to break their own record after making 18 threes in their first game, which is also a tournament record.
Justin Fritts scored five of the threes and led the Cardinals with 25 points. Danny Wallack also scored 19 points, followed by Jeff Foreman with 15.
“What I was very happy with was the passing, finding the open man and giving our guys the space to shoot the basketball,” Cardinals coach Bob Krizancic told TriCities.com after the game.
The Cardinals will play Greater Atlanta Christian in the quarterfinals 5 p.m. today.
Mentor High competed in the Arby's Classic last year and won third place, while becoming a fan favorite with their offensive pyrotechnics.
