Memorial Middle School's Knowledge Masters Tops In State

Students won computer-based academic competition last week

The students of Memorial Middle School have mastered knowledge and now they have the state championship to prove it.

The school's Knowledge Masters team answered a series of difficult questions to win the statewide Knowledge Masters Open last week, according to the Mentor Schools web site.

The open is a computer-based academic competition in which the students' team must answer 200 questions from 15 different categories. Their expertise must include history, science, fine arts, math and useless trivia -- yes, that is the name of the category -- to win.

Competing teams are scored on accuracy, as well as how long it took them to answer the questions.

The Memorial team not only scored best in the state, it was eighth in the country.

Mentor's other middle school teams also performed well. Shore Middle School finished eighth in the state and Ridge scored 19th.
