Whiz Kids' Names: The Mentor Schools Science Olympiad Teams

Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: The Science Olympiad teams from Mentor High School and Shore, Ridge and Memorial Middle Schools all finished in the top 10 at the state championship.

Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: Nothing's cooler than being the smartest kid in the room, especially when the room is filled with some of the smartest kids in the state.

The Mentor High School earned third place at the state championship and won more gold medals from more events than they ever have before. They won first place in anatomy, ecology, chemistry and biology-related challenges.

Mentor High physics teacher and team adviser Tom Ramsey said the students' accomplishments are all the more impressive because Ohio has one of the most competitive olympiads in the country.

The Mentor middle schools also did well at the state championship. They each finished in the top 10. (Ninth-grade students compete with the middle-school even though they attend the high school.)

The Science Olympiad combines dozens of different challenges that involve all aspects of science from biology to astrology and engineering to entomology.

Go Cards! This is every bit as exciting and important as a state track meet. Thanks for recognizing them.
