Man Accused Of Raping 12-Year-Old Boy

Mentor Police said Andrew Brackman befriended the child before victimizing him

Mentor Police have arrested a man who is accused of raping a 12-year-old boy.

Andrew Brackman, 54, was arraigned on a count of rape this morning in Mentor Municipal Court.

Brackman is from Painesville but he has been staying in the Studio 6 hotel.

Brackman befriended the boy while living in the city. He is suspected of raping the child more than once, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said.

This came to the attention of police when the child told a family friend who told the family who, in turn, called police, Powers said.

Brackman remains in jail for the time being.

Acting Judge Paul Miller set Brackman's bond at $100,000 during his arraignment, which was not posted.

His next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Brackman has not previously been convicted of any sex crimes, Powers said.
