Lake Catholic Hockey Sweeps Cougars Holiday Extravaganza Tournament

Varsity team went 5-0 on way to the tournament championship

Lake Catholic hockey coach Ryan Okicki said he wanted to get his team on track during the Cougars Holidays Extravaganza Tournament and that's exactly what happened.

The Cougars varsity team went undefeated on the way to beating Cincinnati Moeller 6-3 Thursday afternoon for the championship. It was the second time they had beaten Moeller during the tournament and third time for the season.

Lake Catholic beat Moeller 7-1 on Wednesday but the visitors gave a fiercer fight during the championship game. The score was still 4-3 at the beginning of third period, but the Cougars scored two more goals to put the game on ice.

Cougars won five games during the tournament, including:

  • 7-1 win against crosstown rival Mentor to open the tournament
  • 7-0 against North Royalton
  • 7-1 against Moeller
  • 7-0 against Medina
  • and finally 6-3 against Moeller for the championship.

Before the tournament, the Cougars were 6-6-1.

Their next game is against St. Edward Wednesday at Mentor Civic Ice Arena.
