There's a lot of Halloween-related fun to be had this week
Where/When: Lakeland Community College, 7:30 p.m. Friday
Why Go: Mary Ann Winkowski, a world-renowned paranormal investigator and Ohio native, will host a night of of ghost-talk.
For those who don't know what a paranormal investigator is, Winkowski's fulltime vocation is functioning as an intermediary between the living and ghosts -- or, as Winkowski prefers to call them, earthbound spirits.
Winkowski has written several books about her experiences and is the inspiration for CBS's The Ghost Whisperer.
Pricing: $25 for Winkowski's talk; $50 for the talk and dinner. Reservations can be made on the college's website.
2. AUTHOR TALK
Where/When: Mentor Public Library - Main Branch, 7 p.m. today
Why Go: Local author Tammy Polenz will visit the Main Library to talk about her recent book "Think Fit 2 be Fit." A limited number of copies will be available for purchase.
Pricing: Free; registration is requested.
Where/When: Mentor Dog Park, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday
Why Go: The fifth annual dog costume contest has been rescheduled to this Thursday.
There will be contests and prizes and tons of dog-themed fun! You can enjoy the treats and wares from pet-friendly themed vendors. The Friends of Mentor Dog Park will be there to answer your questions as well.
Please remember that all dogs must be up to date on their vaccines, they also must be properly licensed. Please do not bring dogs in heat or aggressive dogs. Also, all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Why Go: The Gallery at Lakeland will host an artist reception and costume party to open its Skull and Skeleton in Art... Folk Art to Pop Culture exhibit. Guest speaker Hector Castellanos-Lara will give a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) presentation beginning at 8 p.m.
The exhibit features 53 national, local and regional artists will exhibit works in a variety of media including: oil/ acrylic painting, textiles/fiber, printmaking, drawing, photography, digital art, sculpture, glass, wood, ceramics and ceramic sculpture, mixed media, assemblage art and jewelry.
Where/When: Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Saturday, 9 a.m.
Why Go: This book fair will benefit Lake Catholic High School and St. Gabriel's. Activities include a raffle to win two free NOOK e-readers and cases, gift baskets and gift certificate raffles throughout the day, story time with the Lake Catholic Cougar at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., pictures with the Cougar, face painting, a trivia contest, a frappuccino-making contest and more.
