FBI Releases Annual Crime Report: How Safe is Mentor?
The FBI released its annual report of crime statistics for 2011, which includes breakdowns of cities across the country
The FBI has released its annual report of crime statistics for 2011, which compiles the number of violent and property crimes in cities across the country.
For the most part, Mentor fared well in these categories when compared to similarly populated cities, including other Patch towns like Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga Falls and Lakewood.
According to the FBI numbers, which includes crimes reported to the FBI by local police departments for data purposes, Mentor had 43 violent crimes reported last year, compared to 74 in Lakewood, 60 in Cuyahoga Falls and 143 in Cleveland Heights. However, Mentor reported a greater number of larceny thefts, property crimes and rapes than some of the afforementioned cities.
Overall, the FBI reports that both violent and property crime is down nationwide, the fifth year in a row there was a decrease. To view city-by-city figures for the state of Ohio, click here.
