"He's a bigger version of Johnny Manziel -- has that sandlot feel," Luginbill said.

Trubisky was recently named Mr. Football by the Associated Press of Ohio -- an honor reserved for the best high school football player in the state. He is the second Mentor quarterback in six years to notch that honor; the other being Bart Tanski in 2007.

Trubisky shattered several Mentor records this year with 1,129 yards rushing, 4,065 yards passing and a total of 60 touchdowns.

For the three years Trubisky was quarterback -- he platooned his sophomore year -- he threw for 9,126 yards and 92 touchdowns.

Trubisky led Mentor to a 12-2 record this season, which including a wild 4-game playoff run where the Cardinals overcame a 21-point deficit against St. Edward and out-toughed St. Ignatius in three overtimes.

Trubisky was recruited by North Carolina. He will graduate early from Mentor and will enroll in January.

"I'm kind of surprised Urban Meyer and Ohio State have allowed this guy to get out of state," Luginbill said.
