Canine Obedience Course Being Offered at Mentor Dog Park

Pet owners can pay to enroll their dogs in a six-week canine education course at the city's dog park

Pet owners can enroll their beloved canine in a six-week education and obedience course that will be held at Mentor Dog Park.

The Mentor Recreation Department organized the course. It is designed to turn a peevish pup into a well-mannered, well-behaved dog by teaching him or her commands through positive reinforcement training.

Instructor Kristen Hasasneh-Polzner has been a certified dog trainer for more than four years. She volunteers and has participated in training dogs at the Lake Humane Society.

Dogs must be six months or older to participate. Owners are asked to bring a choke chain or flat collar and leash, soft training treats and a copy of the dog’s current vaccination record. The instructor specifically asks that owners not use prong collars or retractable leashes.

New six-week courses begin both this Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. People can register at www.cityofmentor.com/play or call the Mentor Recreation Department at 440-974-5720.

The program costs $25 for Mentor residents and $36 for nonresidents.
