Bites Nearby: Good Fortune Asian Cuisine
The name may have changed for the eatery formerly known as L M Restaurant, but the tasty food has not
The owner of Good Fortune Asian Cuisine, 7537 Mentor Ave. in Colonial Plaza, tells callers asking for L M Chinese Restaurant that the name has changed. But the menu, mostly, has not. And former chef Scott Wu is still a part-time cook.
Wu and his wife, Lee, opened restaurants in Lakewood (Wu's Cuisine), Cleveland (Shanghai Resturant) and Mentor, before Joe, also a chef, took ownership of Good Fortune seven months ago.
“It's been up and down,” Joe said. “A lot of it was going good the first two months, but it's so-so after that. After people know us and put in a review on yelp or urbanspoon, things have been better.”
One such review states: “Been eating there for months now and have yet to have one unsatisfactory meal. Other Chinese restaurants in the area are distant seconds to the level of kitchen mastery displayed by this little place.”
And another: “They have all the typical 'Chinese restaurant' standbys, which they do really well, but they have than a Chinese menu. It's Good Fortune ASIAN Cuisine, with Asian being the key (word). They have dishes from a number of different regions.”
A glance at the menu, available at www.fortuneasianfood.com, includes the staples, like General Tso's Chicken ($8.95), Szechwan beef ($9.50) and Kung Pao pork ($9.50), all served with steamed rice. Add the standard soups — hot and sour ($2.50), wonton ($1.95) and egg drop ($1.95) — and appetizers — egg roll ($1.50) and crab rangoon ($4.95), as well. There is seafood, like shrimp with lobster sauce ($9.50), also.
But then the menu expands to Cantonese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese selections. All of those dishes are similarly priced as the ones above. The menu is numbered from 1 to 114 to avoid confusion. Hours range from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.
“Have tried about 6 different dishes on their menu ... everything is quality,” writes an urbanspoon reviewer. “The pad thai could be better, but I'm picky when it comes to that so I'll let it slide.”
Chef Joe said there is dine-in or takeout, with most customers calling their orders in ahead of time. He encouraged me to come in and see the decorations, and I will the next time I'm that direction. Until then, the Good Fortune Asian Cuisine's Facebook page will have to do.
According to that page, DeliverMeFood.com has partnered with them to bring Asian cuisine to my doorstep, saving me a trip.

Go beyond "the General" and try the expanded portions of the menu that the article talks about. It's worth it. Great food here.
