- Survived by: His children, Beth Howard and William; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Louise Deubner and Elizabeth Basye. His first wife, Virginia, died in 1995. His second wife, June McKnight Ashbrook, died in 2005.
The Rev. John E. Ashbrook, 85, pastor emeritus of Bible Community Church, died Dec. 20.
Serving as BCC pastor for 45 years beginning in 1952, Ashbrook started Mentor Christian School and served in leadership politions with Ohio Bible Fellowship, Peniel Bible Camp and Ohio Bible Mission.
Ashbrook became internationally known as the author of a series of Here I Stand books about the principles of separatist fundamentalism.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466, Mentor Ave.
